Republic Day Golf & Dinner

The Republic Day of India (Hindi: गणतंत्र दिवस Gantantra Divas) is a national holiday of India to mark the transition of India from a British Dominion to a republic on January 26, 1950 and the adoption of the Constitution of India. It is one of the three national holidays in India.

Golf Parivaar held a Golf & Dinner to celebrate the event. A total of 6 flights teed off at Warren Golf and Country Club this morning.

The organisers - Golf Parivaar

The 1st flight.

Second flight.

Third flight.

Fourth flight.

Fifth flight.

And last but not least, the sixth flight.

Some of the golfers in action.

Really liked this gentleman's pose. Very cool.

As Parivaar also meant Family in Hindi, Golf Parivaar believes that there are no golf widows or orphans and everyone's part of the celebration. The highlight of the event was the Dinner & Dance held at the Singapore Cricket Club's the Gilmour Room where everyone partied under the clear blue skies, with the mgnificent and grand Supreme Court as the background.

The children waiting eagerly and patiently for their custom made balloons.

The guest getting into the mood of the evening - 70s Retro.

There was Gerald Rodriguez who hails from Canada, providing great live music,

which got everybody in the mood for dancing under the stars.

Even the kids couldn't resist getting into the groove.

Not forgetting the good food and great wine and beer !

Lightened up !

新加坡佛牙寺龙华院

Took this photo of the Buddha Tooth Relic temple (新加坡佛牙寺龙华院) with my Sony Ericsson K810i using the Twlight Lanscape mode.

If you're using SLR cameras, you would probably have your camera on a tripod since your shutter speed would probable be around 1-2 seconds.

There would usually be a lot of people around such tourist attractions. If you want to depict movement of these people (through blurry human movements), leave the aperture as big as possible, so that the shutter speed would be just long enough to capture these movements.

However, if you want to minimise such movement appearing in your photo, choose the smallest aperture (f22 or f32). Your shutter speed would then probably be more than 10 seconds. Unless the person is walking very slowly, or was standing absolutely still for 10 seconds, they won't show up in your photo.

If you're not using a tripod, then you would need to find something where you could support your camera with. Luckily, there was a streetlamp riser (the ones you see along the road). I rested my handphone/camera on top and took the photo.

Alternatively, you can try leaning on the lamp post. Press your shutter release while breathing out and holding your breath. You might need to practise this. At least it will reduce movement of your hands.

High on Hot Chocolate

Brought the kids to Vivocity last saturday for some window shopping. Wanted to see what the hype regarding the Sky park was all about. Turned out that most of the water features were under maintenance and only 1 was opened to the public.I saw almost 20-30 kids playing water in the wading pool.

Anyway, was walking around and saw that there was a playground 1 level down, so brought the kids there. Not really your typical playground as there were no slides or structures for kids to climb.

The kids ended up playing a what-you-might-call-it. Where you can sit/lie/hang onto a tilted ring and someone comes along and spins everybody around.

Justin trying his best to make the ring move. Not very successful. Think you can see why.

The kids taking a break after a hard day's work.

Justin didn't know that you could also get high on hot chocolate.

Wedding March in F Major

Let's welcome our guest soloist - Leon Shu Shu (uncle). He plays the percussion. He joins our resident composer, Justin, who has just recently composed a new piece specially to showcase his percussion flair - Wedding March in F Major.

Leon fine-tuning the composition with Justin

Jaslynn, our resident conductor, getting to know our guest better.

1st rehearsal (as you can see, not quite in tune yet).

2nd rehearsal (much better now).

Finally, the Wedding March in F Major.

Lovely Ranchus !

Brought the kids down to Plaza Singapura last Saturday, as I wanted to terminate and return my Starhub digital set-top box (getting too expensive).

Anyway, was wondering in basement 2 and came across these lovely Ranchus. I remembered my mom likes to keep goldfish and there was always a ranchu that did somersaults. And I'm always fascinated when they did their little trick.

Common problem when people take photographs of fish (or anything else) in a tank, or behind/near glass. The flash always blankets out everything.

If the tank is bright enough, turn off the flash. Of course, your hands would have to be very steady. If not, use a tripod.

If using flash is unavoidable, take the photo at an angle to the right or left, and not directly in front of the subject. In this way, at least most of the flash is reflected away from the camera.
